Troy to Serve as Host for Agriculture Committee Field Hearing
Second District to host hearing on Farm Bill

TROY, AL – Congressman Bobby Bright has announced that Troy will serve as the host for a House Agriculture Committee field hearing on the Farm Bill. Eight field hearings will take place across the country to “review U.S. agriculture policy in advance of the 2012 Farm Bill.” The hearing in the Second District will take place on Saturday, May 15th at the Pike County Cattlemen’s Park in Troy.

The first hearing in the series took place in Des Moines, IA in Congressman Leonard Boswell’s district. Congressman Boswell recently joined Congressman Bright in hosting a farmer’s forum in Headland, AL, which sought input from local farmers on the Farm Bill and other issues related to agriculture.

“I am very pleased that the Second District will serve as host for one of only eight hearings on the Farm Bill,” Bright said. “The Farm Bill sets agriculture policy in the U.S. for a five-year period, so it’s important for farmers in the Second District to have the opportunity to express their opinions to members of the committee. I look forward to my colleagues visiting Troy and participating in what should be an informative and helpful field hearing.”

The hearing is open to the public. For those who cannot attend, the House Agriculture Committee plans to provide live video coverage of each hearing on the Committee’s website: http://agriculture.house.gov/hearings/audio.html.

The Committee will also collect public comments about the Farm Bill on its website: http://agriculture.house.gov/inside/feedbackform.html. All comments received online by June 14, 2010 will be included in the Committee’s Farm Bill field hearing record.

Additional details, such as a list of witnesses and Congressional attendees, will be available as the hearing date nears. Specifics on the Troy hearing are listed below.
