Alabama Peanuts: The talk of Talladega
The Alabama Peanut Producers Association served as a major media sponsor for the NASCAR Sprint Cup series first stop of the year at Talladega Superspeedway on April 26, 2009 in Talladega, Alabama. A variety of commercials highlighting Alabama peanuts ran on radio station Thunder 92.7 - the official race broadcasting station - the week prior to and on the actual race day.
Station announcers conducted live radio interviews at their Talladega race broadcasting center, located in the infield of the speedway, with APPA president Carl Sanders and APPA information specialist Teresa Wilson just hours before the race on Sunday. This is the same radio station the Peanut Advisory Board worked with last year on similar promotions. Thunder radio executives recently contacted APPA requesting the tie with Alabama peanuts and their health message with the Talladega races. The race was attended by more than 150,000 race. Alabama peanuts were given out by the radio station during the week. Special guests who gave live radio interviews on race day were also treated to plenty of Alabama peanuts.
