The Alabama-Florida Peanut Trade Show has become a part of many growers’ to do list as they prepare for the upcoming planting season. This year’s show, held on February 9th at the National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds in Dothan, Ala. marked a record crowd of more than 600 attendees.
Whether you have been attending the show for years or this marked your first visit, there was something new and interesting for everyone. “I really enjoyed the show,” said Houston County, Ala. peanut grower William Meadows. “This was my first time coming to the show and I was really impressed with it. Unlike some of the other shows, this one is dedicated to peanuts and its producers.” An afternoon grower educational program was held that included updates on the 2012 Farm Bill, pre-planting recommendations and a seed seminar. David Holloman of Holloman Farms in Headland, Ala. was the winner of the grand door prize donated by Kelley Manufacturing Company. Josh Grant of Uriah, Ala. was the winner of the door prize from Amadas Industries. |
