Kaiser Testifies on Behalf of SPFF
Baldwin County, Alabama peanut producer Mark Kaiser testifed on Wednesday, October 20th, before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Agriculture in Washington, D.C., on behalf of the Southern Peanut Farmers Federation (SPFF). Kaiser testified on the southeast's thoughts on the upcoming farm bill. He told officials that there is support of the current structure of the peanut program with modifications correcting the loan repayment rate for peanuts as administered by USDA. Kaiser also suggested restoring the storage and handling provision for 2007 and said that he felt the entire industry favored an improved program based on the current structure. He also said the SPFF will be working with other regional and industry segments as well in regards to the farm bill. The Southern Peanut Farmers Federation was formed in 1998 to allow southeastern peanut producers to speak with a unified voice. Current members of the SPFF are: Alabama Peanut Producers Association, Florida Peanut Producers Association, Georgia Peanut Commission and the Mississippi Peanut Growers Association.
