- September 04, 2008 - Report On Peanut Acreage
The peanut industry may possibly have more peanuts than the August USDA crop estimate showed. USDA estimated the 2008 Planted peanut acreage at 1,426,000 acres, an increase of 19 percent from the previous year. But checking with FSA offices on certified acres, it appears the increase was at 26 percent. increase in acreage. Reports indicate USDA said they will evaluate the certified acres in the next report, but certification was late this year due to the late signing of the Farm Bill. The biggest acreage increase appears to be in Georgia, up 44,580 acres. The largest percentage jump was also in Georgia, up 25.6 percent from last year.
